5 Must-Have Apps for Mac

I’m sure we all use loads of apps on our Macs. Here are a few that I use every day and these will be the first apps I download for any Mac computer that I have.

Sidekick

Sidekick is my browser of choice. I discovered sidekick maybe just over a year ago and it’s made my productivity a whole lot better. I have quick and easy access to the web apps that I use daily in a side panel which I can also access through keyboard commands which makes navigating through the browser faster. I can manage sessions so if I have to task switch and I have loads of tabs open I can create a new session and store all the tabs of my previous session. Try it out and tell me what you think.

Notion

Notion is probably the first app that I open whenever I get to my Macbook followed by Slack in a close second but for different reasons. Notion allows me to keep track of my tasks for the day, and upcoming week. Also ensures that I’m taking action towards my goals every day or at least at the frequency that I’ve set. You can check out my blog on my productivity system in Notion.

Endel

This has been a game-changer for my focus. Endel is an app that uses AI to create soundscapes that can help you focus, relax, sleep or exercise. I mainly use the focus setting but I’ve been meaning to try out the sleep setting since I’ve been having some trouble sleeping lately. Although I think I just need a new set of pillows. I usually have the soundscapes playing throughout the day and it helps me stay focused and manage how much I task switch and drop my productivity.

Raycast

To put it simply, Raycast is Spotlight Search on steroids. You can add the apps that you use most frequently as extensions to improve how you interact with them along with the searching capabilities. Search through apps or files in apps that you need to access like Figma for example. I find the calculator is also very useful. All in all, it helps keep me focused on the task at hand.

F.lux

This app is more to help me stay productive as the sun goes down, literally. I work better at night but the blue light from the Macbook normally destroys my eyes as it gets darker and the lighting in my room is not the best. It changes the tones the screen displays and makes it easier on the eyes. Since I’ve started using F.lux it’s made my night owl habits of working till 12 am or 1 am a little easier. I’d still recommend getting blue light blockers or glasses to protect your eyes if you spend long hours on the computer especially at night.

Let me know if you will be trying out any of these apps and let me know if I should share more.
