“The Gap and The Gain” is a book co-authored by Dr. Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy. The book explores the concepts of the Gap Mindset and the Gain Mindset, and how they can impact our personal and professional lives. The authors argue that the way we approach our goals and challenges can either help us grow and achieve more or leave us feeling unfulfilled and stuck.

The Gap Mindset vs. The Gain Mindset

The Gap Mindset is when we focus on what we lack, what we haven’t achieved, and what we need to improve. We constantly compare ourselves to others and measure our success by how far we are from our ideal state. This mindset can be demotivating and lead to feelings of inadequacy and frustration.

On the other hand, the Gain Mindset is when we focus on progress and growth. We acknowledge and celebrate our achievements, no matter how small, and use them as fuel to keep moving forward. We are grateful for what we have and see our challenges as opportunities to learn and improve.

The authors suggest that adopting a Gain Mindset can lead to more happiness, success, and fulfilment in life. It allows us to appreciate where we are while still striving for more.

The Example of the Confused Entrepreneur

In the book, the authors share a story of a man who attended one of their workshops. This man had been successful in his business but couldn’t understand why he wasn’t as excited about his accomplishments as the other entrepreneurs in the room. He felt like he was always falling short of his goals and that there was always more he needed to achieve.

Through the workshop, the man learned about the Gap Mindset and the Gain Mindset. He realised that he had been focusing on the gap between where he was and where he wanted to be, rather than celebrating his progress and the gains he had made along the way. He had been missing out on the joy and satisfaction that comes from acknowledging and appreciating what he had already accomplished.

The man left the workshop with a new perspective and a Gain Mindset. He was excited about his business again and felt grateful for what he had achieved. He saw his challenges as opportunities to grow and improve, rather than as obstacles in his way.

“The Gap and The Gain” is a valuable book that can help anyone shift their mindset and approach to life. By adopting a Gain Mindset, we can appreciate and celebrate our progress while still striving for more. We can find joy and fulfilment in the journey, rather than just focusing on the destination.
