Researching Event Apps: Insights and Tools for Building a Better Product
Hey everyone, Jésus Husbands here! Today, I’m diving deep into the research phase of building an events app. This phase is crucial to ensure that the product meets the needs of its users and stands out in the competitive market of event apps. In this blog, I’ll walk you through the steps I took, the tools I used, and the insights I gathered to lay a strong foundation for the app I’m developing. Let’s get started!
Step 1: Gathering Insights from Event Organizers
The first step in my research was to reach out to event organizers and promoters within my network. These are the business users who interact with event apps, so their insights are invaluable. I wanted to hear about their experiences, the challenges they face, and what they look for in an event app.
One key takeaway from these conversations was the importance of secure and easy withdrawals. Every organizer I spoke to emphasized the need for a platform that allows them to withdraw their earnings without hassle. This insight is crucial as it highlights a core feature that needs to be executed flawlessly in the app I’m building.
Step 2: Analyzing Existing Event Apps
Next, I moved on to analyzing existing event apps. I categorized them based on their geographical reach — local, regional, and global. This approach helped me understand the different features and user experiences that cater to specific markets.
To gather a comprehensive list of apps, I spoke with people across various Caribbean countries and conducted Google searches. Once I had my list, I began a detailed analysis, focusing on user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) elements that stood out.
Step 3: Utilizing UI & UX Research Tools
While analyzing these apps, I used two standout tools: Mobbin and UXArchive. These platforms offer a vast collection of real-world app designs, allowing me to study how top apps guide users through different actions and gather inspiration for my own design.
Mobbin and UXArchive were particularly useful for researching global apps like Eventbrite, SeatGeek, and Dice. For local and regional apps not included in these libraries, I conducted my analysis manually. These tools saved me a significant amount of time and provided valuable insights into UI & UX best practices.
Key Takeaways and Next Steps
Conducting thorough research is a critical step in the app development process. It ensures that the product you’re building addresses real user needs and stands out in the market. For the events app I’m developing, secure withdrawals and a user-friendly design are top priorities.
In the next phase, I’ll be focusing on building the brand for the app, ensuring that it resonates with users and aligns with the app’s functionality. Stay tuned for more updates as I continue this journey!
Research is the backbone of any successful product development. By understanding user needs, analyzing existing products, and leveraging powerful tools, you can build a product that not only meets but exceeds user expectations. Thanks for following along, and I look forward to sharing more of this journey with you!
